It may not ordinarily be looked at as the most lucrative game in the universe of betting, but keno has huge amounts of passionate fans. Why wouldn’t it? It’s a routinely thrilling lottery-like game that’s easy to learn, abundantly available in many alternate formats, and one that will yield millions of dollars for those who learn its endless subtle intricacies. But let’s begin with the beginner’s rules for now.
When explaining keno to beginners, some wagering masters compare it to bingo. This is at least partly correct, in that both games are essentially numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far can be to devalue the good many unique aspect that make keno so fun. Not like bingo, keno players have the ability to pick the numbers for each and every card.
Keno cards have a total of eighty numbers, but the player is given an increased level of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as he thinks is appropriate. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all your desired numbers with a ordinaryball point pen like you used back in school.
Once you’ve marked your numbers, take the game card back to the clerk at the keno stand. The keno pit manager will record those numbers and then give you a receipt. Don’t drop this (potentially) valuable piece of paper! Even if the clerk remembers you and would like to help out, without a winning slip in hand, you will collect precisely $.00 for your actions.
So, there you have strategy number one: always take care to keep your keno slip. Let’s move to something a little more complicated, yes?
Now that you’ve marked your numbers, settle into a nice keno booth and observe the action happen on the video monitor. This is where the winning numbers are shown for us. If you selected winners, mark your card appropriately. Sake care not to move to slowly, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You must get up to the keno stand to redeem your winnings, and a new drawing will probably start up within 5 minutes.
Strategy number two: always be sure to get back to the keno booth on time!
Assuming you can’t trust yourself to beat that five-minute deadline each time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" ticket. These include the same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from two to twenty cards. When the maximum number of rounds (fitting the amount of tickets) is played, you can then get off your numb bum and go get your winnings.
Yet another choice is recognized as a "stray and play" keno slip, which normally allows you make number picks for 30 rounds or more. Heck, you can take an ocean cruise and not have to fret about getting back in time to retrieve your numbers. Most "stray and play" game cards are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!
And now you have learned a couple required strategies for winning keno. If you are an experienced player, they may seem to be quite obvious. Still, it will never hurt to brush up on the fundamentals, and if you are a novice user, every little bit of direction will help make your keno playing time more exciting.
