It won’t generally be looked at as the sexiest game in the field of gaming, but keno has millions and millions of fanatical supporters. As well it should! It’s a constantly exciting lottery-type game that’s easy to play, abundantly available in several different variations, and one that may pay out mega-dollars for those who master its limitless subtle intricacies. But let’s deal with the basics for now.

When explaining keno to newbies, some gambling connoisseurs compare it to bingo. This is at least to a certain degree correct, in that both games are basically numerical. But to take that comparison too far would be to underestimate the great many unique aspect that make keno so interesting. Unlike bingo, keno users have the power to select the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a total of 80 numbers, but the user is accord an additional level of personal responsibility by being able to determine as many (or as few) numbers as he or she wants. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to determine how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all your selected numbers with a normalpen like you used when you were in school.

Once you’ve marked your numbers, carry your game card back to the clerk at the keno stand. The keno pit manager will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Don’t lose this (potentially) expensive piece of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your mug and would like to help out, without a winning ticket in hand, you will win precisely $.00 for your efforts.

And there you have strategy number one: always make sure to keep your keno slip. Let’s advance to something a little more complex, what do you think?

Once you’ve picked out your numbers, get yourself into a nice keno booth and watch the action happen on a video monitor. That is where the winning numbers are displayed for all to see. If you checked winners, mark your card accordingly. Be sure not to take your time, or sit there praising yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You are required to get back to the keno booth to get your winnings, and then a new keno game will probably get going within five minutes.

Strategy number 2: always get back to the keno booth on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to make that five-minute deadline every time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" ticket. These include the very same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from 2 to twenty slips. When the max amount of games (matching the number of tickets) is completed, you will then be able to get off your numb butt and go redeem your winnings.

Another option is known as a "stray and play" keno card, which commonly lets you make number choices for 30 keno rounds or more. Gosh, you can take vacation to France and not have to worry about getting back in time to retrieve your numbers. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after you purchase it!

So now you are aware of a number of essential techniques for winning keno. If you are a skillful player, they may seem quite obvious. But it will never hurt to brush up on the basics, and if you are a novice player, every bit of direction will help make your keno experience more fun.
